Liberate Your Oily Scalp While Social Distancing
Posted by
onFor many of us, we’ve never had to stay at home for extended periods of time. Now with #socialdistancing and #selfisolation becoming the new norm, we’ve been wondering how we can best navigate these challenging times in the best positive ways?
While we don’t have a cure for Covid-19, we do have a cure for the boredom of self- isolation, in the form of some tips to help see you through this time. With fun and inspiration, and hair that bhaves!
INTRODUCING “THE SHAMPOO DETOX”
Now is the perfect time to tackle that oily scalp in the privacy of your own home. On the bright side, you’re less likely to bump into that gorgeous guy/girl at the park/gym/bar looking like you’ve just fried an egg on your head! You will go through a few weeks of dealing with oily roots while pushing the boundaries of not washing your hair, but trust us, it will be worth it in the end.
WHY A SHAMPOO DETOX?
SAVE $$ - using less shampoo and conditioner is going to make a positive impact on your bank balance. This is definitely the time for us to find ways to save.
COLOUR LASTS LONGER - washing your hair everyday can cause your colour to fade quicker than it should.
LAY OFF THE HEAT - We could all do with fewer split ends now, not to mention frizz! By minimising your use of heating appliances, you also minimise overall damage.
DIRTY HAIR = EASIER TO UPSTYLEfor your online zoom date!
So now you know the why, let’s get straight to the how.

THE SECRET IS IN THE ROUTINE
DAY 1 – Wash your hair (while belting out your favourite song…)
DAY 2 – Meditate, walk the dog (at a safe distance!), read a beautiful book, breathe…
DAY 3 - Get creative, try new hair up-styles, make a delish meal, keep in touch with your nearest & dearest
DAY 4 – Wash day! You and your locks have earned it.
DAY 5 – Journal, watch Netflix, be kind to yourself.
DAY 6 – Watch the sunrise, work out (online or in your garden), soak in a hot bath with bubbles & candles, apply a face mask and listen to music…
DAY 7 – Bake something yummy, try something new: painting, drawing, blogging or playing a puzzle.

WEEK 2
Follow the same routine as week one, except for day 4. We know what you’re thinking….yuch! but pushing to that full week of not washing is allowing your sebaceous (oil) glands to slow down their production.
Repeat this hair routine for a few weeks until you begin to notice that it is feeling less greasy. Pressing pause on daily washes means that you can enjoy more time to yourself, shinier hair, a naturally moisturised scalp and less damage!
BONUS: TIPS & TRICKS TO HELP MINIMISE OIL PRODUCTION
WASH YOUR FRINGE/BANGS ONLY- if you’ve got a fringe or short layers around your face, simply wash your fringe and put the rest of your hair up in a pony tail or braid.
AVOID HOT WATER & BRUSHING FREQUENTLY - there's nothing quite like a soothing hot shower…but if you can help it, try to avoid washing your hair with hot water as it increases your hair’s oil production. Also, try to avoid brushing your hair too much everyday as this alone will stimulate oil production. A quick once over to get rid of knots is sufficient.
We would like to encourage you to use this time as a gift and turn these challenges into advantages.
WE LEAVE YOU WITH THIS THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK…
You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength – Marcus Aurelius
Keep safe...
